A well-written, solid novel, filled with real people, real emotions, and real action. Within the premise (time displacement of a 21st century Russian nuclear battlecruiser to the Mediterranean Sea in WW2), the main characters are sensitive to their own precarious predicament, fully aware of the threat they pose to the combatants of the period, and aware of the fact that their actions in their own self-defense would have possibly disastrous results on their ability to return to their own present. I enjoyed the first book of the series, and I'm looking forward to reading the next.Product details

The Kirov series was a very pleasant surprise. I bought it on a whim and I've gone through the first two books in the series and look forward to the rest.
I loved the first Kirov, and the second is just as compelling. Those who loved the Weapons of Choice series should definately buy this one.
Continuing the action and fun using historical facts with a science fiction incident. I couldn't put it down, and when I finished I looked forward to the third part of the trilogy.
I am a history buff, and I like military novels, but this one takes the prize! The action is fast paced, and it's one that you just don't want to end. The brilliant dialogue reveals much about the main characters. I read Kirov I, and I enjoyed it immensely, but I thought the action and plot moved much faster in Kirov II. The historical events and the many ships referenced in the book give it a touch of realism. One more thing, the quotes and titles for each chapter are masterfully named raising the level of anticipation and suspense. Let's have some more!
I love good alternate history books. They've been my favorite catagory for the last few years.
This, and it's predecessor, Kirov, are a good example. Well written, with both good action and good drama!
I do recommend them, especially if you like alternate history and military fiction.
Schettler is a marvelous craftsman..meticulously reweaving what was with what cannot have been. The story contuinues the adventures of a nicely drawn set of characters in a rapidly evolving situation and ends in a logical resultution.... all but for one thing. I'm waiting anxiously for the nexy installment!
Great research coupled with a lot of action.
Some authors can create characters, but when this is coupled with action, they tend to fall flat. Not this author. His style is along the same line as Clancey. You are put in the aggressor and defender shoes, old and new technologies. Great twists and turns as well.
